When I wrote my piece earlier this week about Web3 and Alexis Ohanian’s quest to turn gaming into a job, I got into a few spirited discussions about why he wants to do so. This isn’t just about money - Ohanian is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, as are many of the people
The fact that Alexis Ohanian is already a millionaire does not mean that Web3 is not all about money for him. The world is full of millionaires and billionaires who are motivated solely by the need to accumulate as much money as possible.
When I back a successful Kickstarter, get my product, and it turns into an actual business that keeps selling the product, I think “this is great, I got the thing I wanted! And I can tell other people about it and they can also buy it!”
This is normal! This isn’t a lack of ambition! Stop making everything into a hustle!!
The other favorite web3 sloganeering of mine is how consumers can cash in on trends -- music, fashion, games, movies, memes, videos -- by asserting earlier "credit" for the trend as consumers. When, in fact, we know the rewards primarily only go to owners.
"Consumerism as ownership" seems to be a big manipulative theme (i.e., lie) to hypnotize fresh sets of Ponzi prospects whose lives have been conditioned around being obedient consumers.
