Depending on which New York Times columnist you’re reading today, you either think that Elon Musk is a wonderful guy that’s “hard to love” or that he was able to buy Twitter because he “gets it.” The latter, a piece by Ultra-Wonk Ezra Klein, is a meandering piece that only someone who doesn’t really use Twitter that much could write:
THANK YOU. I swear I have felt like questioning my sanity because, to me, it’s so easy to see through the bullshit around this dude and yet the media and many ordinary people are just….completely blind?
Just the sheer number of New York Times column inches that have been devoted to (and I use "devoted" intentionally) since he even announced that he was maybe interested in maybe acquiring Twitter has been well worth his purchase price—considering said purchase will take months to even go through. I deactivated too, because doing what amounts to free labor for the wealthiest man on the planet is not something I am interested in.
you are clearly jealous of Elon. He has done very well for someone with a handicap and you are just a whinny punk probably living in your mother's basement!
To me it feels like writers for a lot major news organizations are completely obsessed with Twitter and social media in general. I don't think it matters as much to most people as it does to them but then again it feels like much of the legacy media is completely out of touch with most of their reader base. What Musk gets but maybe some the rest doesn't is that what happens on Twitter really doesn't matter all that much.
I do find it funny that a lot of the "blue check-mark" crowd is now getting a dose of its own medicine and is contemplating leaving the platform if Musk buys it and rolls back the moderation (or just flips it?).
Like, I dunno. He may *suck* as a tweeter, but that never stopped so many others. As a hopelessly degenerate Twitter addict myself, I'm not sure I could reasonably argue Musk didn't count as one wholeheartedly. There's an "I" in "Torment Nexus".
Elon Musk Doesn't "Get" Twitter (And Yes, He's Really That Bad)
THANK YOU. I swear I have felt like questioning my sanity because, to me, it’s so easy to see through the bullshit around this dude and yet the media and many ordinary people are just….completely blind?
Klein blithely notes Musk's 'union-busting' like it's nothing. It's the very reason that I deactivated my account, a bridge too far.

An anagram of “Elon Musk’s twitter” is “Sluttiest Workmen” so I think we can all see what that means.
Excellent. And thank you for correcting Klein and Manjoo's blinkered takes.

Actually Elon does get twitter, he owns it and you just whine on it!
