Ed, your righteous indignation gives me life.

These conservative "free speech warriors" are an outrageous fraud. They equate deference to insane bullshit to "tolerance." They sue their critics when those critics express themselves in ways the "oppressed conservative" disagrees with... Jordan B. Peterson being one of the most prominent examples. (You have to give him points for audacity -- wading into the US electoral debate system as a foreign national, getting in spirited debates during our elections, and then slinking off to Canada after getting soundly beaten, only to threaten to sue his American critics in a foreign Canadian court for hurting his feelings in American debates about our American elections, which took place in America, protected by our first amendment).

It gets even more intolerable when you look at what hypocritical control freaks these right wing demons are. As they whine and cry on national TV about "not having a voice," they also pass laws that deny Black kids the opportunity to learn about their own history -- "Marxist critical race theory!" In Florida, the "free speech conservatives" passed a law banning the mentioning of the existence of LGBT people in Florida schools -- a child mentioning a gay or trans relative or friend can be punished or expelled from school, while teachers aren't allowed to acknowledge the existence of LGBT historical figures or individuals in contemporary America.

And of course, the King of the Shit Pile, as always, is Texas, where the "free speech conservatives" have not only banned discussion of Black history and LGBT history in schools, but also have turned the Child Support services against parents of trans and nonbinary kids, inserting politics into mental health by defining accepting parenthood as "abuse"... and deleted all references to mental health and suicide prevention resources for queer kids from state online sites *in a deliberate effort to ensure people die.* Some "free speech and defense of expression" there, huh.

To hell with these people and their "feelings." None of them deserve the deference they demand.

Non-brand Maggie Haberman’s forthcoming book is said to include details on Trump that she omitted from her reporting in the NYTimes. Definitely no personal brand happening here.

I think she takes a lot of unwarranted heat for what is some occasionally decent reporting. Unfortunately this appears to have turned her into a shell of a person that is no longer capable of accepting criticism or learning from her mistakes.

I haven’t been reading this substack very long, but it seems out of place with the articles that I’ve read here. I’ll just say that while the other articles were mind-expanding and worth my time, this one was not. I can read these points from hundreds of lesser minds … but don’t bother because it is so predictable. I hope to read more like the ones that preceded it.

US journalists acting like crabs in a bucket is especially funny from the UK perspective where traditional media is undead and relevant only to boomers and the City. Same lack of introspection and personal growth but without the industry abandonment and desperation to excuse it.
