The other night, I discussed with a friend the case of Justine Sacco, the PR person who famously tweeted vile racist garbage before getting on an 11 hour flight with no WiFi and landing to find herself with no job and half of the internet making fun of or being angry at her.
twitter became unbearable for me when the culture war really started going mainstream around 2014ish; I didn't like it much before then, but that's when I started noticing that the tweets of someone I otherwise would respect oftentimes worked to lessen my actual respect for them. it's nice to see you and Warzel and Ryan Broderick finally get it I guess, I can send this stuff to people I know who are tired of hearing me rant about it for years.
i got tired of seeing everyone i followed eventually engage in some form of this and also do it myself. It's why after years of hardcore twitter usage i decided to reduce down to 10 follows (most of them outside tech) and largely remove myself from the 'conversation.'
